Our Lady Aparecida

Personal project. Our Lady of Aparecida, also known as Nossa Senhora Aparecida, is a revered figure in Brazil and throughout the Catholic world. She is the patroness of Brazil and is particularly venerated by the Brazilian people. The story of Nossa Senhora Aparecida begins in the early 18th century when three fishermen found a statue of the Virgin Mary in the Paraíba River in Brazil. After they found the statue, they experienced a miraculous increase in their catch. This event led to a strong devotion to Our Lady of Aparecida, and a small chapel was built to honor her.

Over time, devotion to Nossa Senhora Aparecida grew, and she became increasingly popular among the Brazilian population. In 1930, she was officially declared the patroness of Brazil by Pope Pius XI. Today, the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, located in the city of Aparecida in São Paulo state, is one of the largest Catholic pilgrimage sites in the world. Every year, millions of pilgrims visit the basilica to pay homage to Nossa Senhora Aparecida and to seek her intercession in their lives. She is seen as a symbol of hope, faith, and protection, and her image is widely displayed in homes, churches, and public places throughout Brazil.
